Martha : Mesmeric Subject

‘Martha: Mesmeric Subject’ was installed surrounding Martha’s living wagon at Dingles Fairground Heritage Museum, and took on the aesthetic of the fairground shooting gallery. Martha’s role was pivotal to the success of Anderton & Rowland’s, the fairground she was associated with: she was responsible for the accounts, employment and logistics of the fairground but was rarely seen and seldom spoken of publicly. In other words, Martha remained hidden at the centre of her circle – which provided another constraint to the visual language.
